Community Service, Our Specialty

  • For the past 19 years, the Club hosts a monthly "Spirits Rise" party at the Haven Hills Shelter for abused women and children.  After the performance of magician, punch and cake are served while our club members present gifts to the women and children.
  • The club hosts a monthly bar-b-que at Lanark Park for the young people who participate in the X-treme Teens Sports League.
  • We sponsor a Junior Optimist Club at the NEW Academy, Canoga Park.  The Jr. Optimists members provide leadership and positive service to the school and its community.
  • The students of the NEW Academy who achieve outstanding attendance are hosted to an Ice Cream Social as a reward.
  • Our club participates in Optimist International's Essay and Oratorical Contest.  The winners of our club level competition go on to compete in the Zone and District contests.
  • The West Hills Optimist Club enters a float in the Canoga Park Memorial Day Parade.  Our members work very hard and have won First Place Awards in the Service Category.  This serves to give the Optimists lots of positive Recognition in our community.
  • Along with 6 other Optimists Clubs located in the western San Fernando Valley, we co-sponsor the Optimist Dads' Day Dash. A 5/10K run/walk held annually in the spring.  Proceeds from the race go to fund brain cancer research at UCLA Children's Hospital and other local Childhood Cancer programs.
  • The West Hills Optimist Club also provides financial and volunteer assistance to the Optimist Blind Youth Association in its work to house out-of-town blind athletes competing at a track and field event held annually at the Jr. Blind of America Campus in West Los Angeles.

Our club members are justifiably proud of what we do in and for the community.  We are always looking for support from the community-at-large.  You can help by becoming a club member or by financial donations.  We are affiliated with Optimist International a 501(3)(c) organization.
